Let’s start by asking this question. What does a mortgage broker do? After having answered this question, it may now become clearer why a mortgage broker can make things easier for us.
To put as simply as possible, we can say that a mortgage broker is an individual who mediates between you and the lenders, helping you get a much better deal. With his/her help, you should be able to have a better understanding of the process, move through the process faster and more easily, and most importantly, get a much more better deal than you could have gotten on your own.
I know the definition given above may look a bit too simplified especially to the industry practitioners, but for this write up, it would do. When we have a mortgage broker with us, we do not have to worry about terms we do not understand or aspects if the process that seem confusing. Many people are simply at a loss when faced with situations they are not familiar with. You most certainly would find yourself in seemingly strange waters from time to time. You would come across paper work that need to be filed and you may be confused about where each one should go and what should be filled here or there etc. The task of the mortgage broker is amongst other things to ensure you do all you should do to ensure you get approved.
The broker also has links (ideally) with lenders and should be able to negotiate the best deals for you. You can with their help and advice, locate a lender that would have a package that would suit you perfectly.
One thing that should be noted from all of the above is this. If you do not remember any other thing, remember that you need an independent broker. Your decision to get your loan from a lender would be greatly influenced by the advice from your mortgage broker. If unfortunately you are working with a broker affiliated to a lender, s/he would do everything to convince you to go with that lender even if they do not necessarily have the best deal for you.
The simplest way to know if a broker is an independent one or not is to look at the number of lender s/he can work with. You need a broker that can work with as many lenders as possible.
Get yourself a reputable and experienced mortgage broker today and see how much easier it would make your task. Online is a good place to start looking for one. Simply go to online yellow pages or try Google places. Try also to get as much information as you about the broker preferably from third party reviews. Don’t depend just on what people are saying on the mortgage broker’s site. Try to find third party reviews. That way, you would be surer.
